I am Timothy Diokno. I am a graphic designer by trade and a cross-disciplinary designer by and large. I also play music, write, speak, and preach the gospel of Jesus Christ. I was born in August 28.
And ever since I learned how to create my life has been enriched by and through art and design — from observing it, experiencing it, being inspired by it, to making it, and seeing people experience what I make. Through Studio 0828, I want to keep doing that.
Art and design, to me, are distinct but inseparable concepts. Art is a vehicle of personal and collective human expression, and design is the discipline of problem-solving. Yet, in design, art is an instrument that is used to solve problems. And since design, in a way, is the expression of humanity’s desires and ideals, design itself becomes art.
And this is why I think art and design are not optional luxuries, they are fundamental and therefore essential to our very being regardless of who we are; our lives cannot be detached from them. Art and design is how we exist. We will always find ourselves engaging in problem-solving, and that usually includes the problem of how we express ourselves as people — our needs, feelings, thoughts, and aspirations.
Life is an inevitable exercise of art and design, and Studio 0828 is my contribution to furthering that exercise. My aim is to promote and communicate this unbreakable relationship between art, design, and humanity through practical and sustainable means that encourage, enable, and equip us to do just that.
